Ayurveda is the traditional medicine of India and it has been practiced in India for over 5000 years. It is one of the oldest medical systems in the world and is backed by clinical experience to validate its practice. Ayurveda is a holistic healing system that treats the mind, body and sprit as a whole. Ayurveda believes that there are five basic elements (air, fire, water, earth, & space) that exist within every individual. When the five essential elements are in balance we are able to attain a natural state of pure health. There are several cleansing and rejuvenating practices of Ayurveda, which include diet, exercise, meditation and massage.

In particular, Ayurvedic hot oil massage is one of the most effective practices for postpartum healing, as it promotes overall vitality. Ayurveda helps to restore the cells in a woman’s body by increasing circulation, moving lymph and by soothing the nervous system. Furthermore, Ayurveda helps to relieve nervousness and anxiety, insomnia, postpartum depression, colic, postpartum constipation, insufficient lactation, postpartum exhaustion and postpartum joint pain.

You can go to Ayurveda centre where Ayurvedic hot oil massage is performed or you can perform a self-massage at home! Below is a link demonstrating the process and what is needed!
